Gusty northwest winds will diminish toward sunset across western Iowa. High pressure will build into the state Friday into Saturday, with much cooler air moving into Iowa. This allow temperatures to fall below freezing across much of the area Friday night into early Saturday morning. Areas across northern Iowa will be colder than areas in the freeze watch, however it is still within the climatological normal period for that area to receive a freeze. Thus no headline will be issued for areas north of highway 20 at this time.
Temperatures will fall to 20 to 25-mph degrees by late Friday night into Saturday morning. Tender vegetation may be killed by the cold temperatures and resultant freeze. A freeze watch means sub-freezing temperatures are possible. These conditions could kill sensitive vegetation.
