A flash flood warning has been issued for Palo Alto, Emmet, Hancock, Winnebago, Kossuth, Worth and Cerro Gordo county in north central Iowa until 7:30AM CDT Sunday.
At 1:25AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain in progress across, or soon to enter the warned area. These storms have a history of producing up to 3 inches of rain per hour. Rain of this intensity is expected to produce flash flooding especially in urban areas.
Some locations that will experience flooding include, Mason City, Estherville, Algonga, Forest City, Emmetsburg, Garner, Northwood, Lake Mills, Britt, Nora Springs, Manly, Emmons, Ingham Lake, Clear Lake, Smith Pool, Eagle Lake, Five Island Lake, Iowa Lake, High Lake and Rice Lake.
Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautions at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
