The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has posted a Severe Thunderstorm Warning that includes far western Plymouth County in northwest Iowa. The storm that should move into the county within the hour has a long history of producing large hail and has managed to maintain its intensity.
In fact, just moments ago there was a report of tennis ball sized hail. That’s extremely large and capable of producing very serious damage. People in the path of this storm in northwest Iowa should prepare now for its arrival and seek shelter immediately.
The storm is moving somewhat slowly to the east at 25 mph. More storms are expected to develop later this afternoon and we’re working on an update as we speak. In the meantime, we are tracking this one strong storm about to move into Iowa as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 6:00pm.
