Enhanced Risk: Increased Damaging Wind Threat

Severe thunderstorms are expected late this afternoon into tonight across the upper Midwest, particularly across central and southern Minnesota, northeast Iowa, southwest Wisconsin and northwest Illinois.

A cap will keep storms from developing until late afternoon Sunday. Once the cap begins to erode, storms will develop across southern Minnesota. This appears to take place after 6pm this evening. These storms will merge into a bowing segment, which will then track to the southeast across northeast Iowa. The primary treat will be damaging wind gusts, which is why a portion of the slight risk has been upgraded to an enhanced risk.

Storms will then begin to exit the state near sunrise Monday. Additional chances of severe weather will continue early into the week, so continue to follow the Iowa Storm Chasing Network for the latest severe weather updates.
