Thunderstorms that developed late Saturday Night and early Sunday Morning continue at this hour, producing strong to severe bands of showers and thunderstorms. This morning’s primary threat from these storms is large hail and some isolated strong, gusty winds. Around 4:45am 2” diameter hail was reported in Mahaska County.
Beyond a couple hail reports from one cell this morning, most of these storms have only produced vivid lightning and heavy rains. In fact a Flash Flood Warning is posted for portions of extreme southeast Iowa. These storms continue to move to the east-southeast and will continue to threaten this part of Iowa with large hail over the next few hours.
Eventually these storms will exit the region and hopefully give Iowa a period of drier weather for Sunday. Things look to remain active later this week but for now the severe threat remains uncertain.
