After the recent rains this past week, the drought conditions have improved slightly across the state. Just last week, 70.84% of the state was under some form of drought. After the recent rain, that is down nearly 15% this week.
The worst drought conditions still remain across southern Iowa, where just a little more than 2% of the state is under an extreme drought. This includes the counties of: Warren, Clarke, Lucas, Wapello, Union and Madison.
The bad news is that the next several days will provide very little additional chances of rain. The next best chance of rain will come on Friday night into Saturday, mainly across northwest Iowa, and that looks to bring the possibility of a half inch to as much as an inch of rain.
