There’s one thing to be said about straight line wind producing storms. They can often time be some of the most beautiful images as the storm approaches you. Of course that all changes one they arrive, because then the wind and the damage begins.
Widespread damage was reported over the Cedar Rapids metro area Friday evening as wind gusts reached the 70-80mph range in the area. Tens of thousands were without power as power poles, trees and power lines were downed by the winds.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the bulk of the damage appears to be to the electrical grid which, although it will take time, will be repaired. This was a powerful storm system that unfortunately hit a very populated area. No matter how small the storm is, that combination can produce widespread problems.
