Downed Power Line Causes Field Fire in Augusta Iowa

Eastern Iowa field Fire Due to Power Pole

AUGUSTA, IOWA (DES MOINES COUNTY) – A large field fire was reported at 8:42PM CST this evening. It is believed that the cause of the fire is due to a power line that was downed by the strong winds. Multiple fire departments have been called to the scene.

Crews from West Burlington, Wever, and Denmark are all on scene with Burlington protecting exposure threats, and bringing the blaze under control. The power line belongs to Access Energy, which is on scene. Crews have been on scene for over two hours, trying to gain control of the fire. As of 10:15PM CST, the fire has reportedly burned 5 acres.

UPDATE 10:35PM CST: Some fire crews are now being released from the scene as the fire is now under control.

UPDATE 11PM CST: The fire has been extinguished, and all remaining fire equipment has left the scene.
