Damaging Wind, Large Hail & Tornadoes Thursday

Thursday Severe Weather Outlook Iowa

The severe weather set-up on Thursday will be a bit more challenging due to thunderstorms expected at sunrise Thursday morning. How storms progress Thursday morning, will have a big impact on how the day will unfold.

As of now, it appears that storms will clear out of the state early enough in the day Thursday, that the heat and instability will be able to build back into the state. Storms will then redevelop across central Iowa by mid afternoon, and will pose a risk for all modes of severe weather. Eventually, as we have seen yesterday and will today, storms will merge and will form into a bowing line segment. This will transition the tornado threat, over to a widespread damaging wind threat.

We will have to keep a close eye on how things unfold this afternoon and during the overnight, as that will be the key to how things will unfold tomorrow.
