Yes, that’s a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of southern Minnesota. And yes, unfortunately that means little rain is expected to make it into the Hawkeye State. A broken line of strong to severe thunderstorms has developed over portions of Minnesota along a frontal boundary in the Twin Cities area.
As a result, the Storm Prediction Center issues this watch for tonight, but at this time, there is little chance we’ll see any decent rains in Iowa tonight. There remains hope we could see some showers this weekend, but it does not appear we’ll see enough to put any significant dent in the drought conditions currently plaguing the state.
We are monitoring the latest reports on the drought and any prospect for rain, but for now, expect more of the same. Later we’ll have more on the potential for a break in our heat wave, stay tuned..
