Showers and a few thunderstorms are possible tonight as a frontal boundary sweeps through the state. As you can see in the graphic to the left, the Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk for severe weather posted just south of Iowa, but not including any part of the state. With the exception of an isolated hail storm or strong wind gust, no severe weather is expected in Iowa. There simply isn’t enough instability in the atmosphere to produce any organized strong storms.
Even without that instability, showers should develop in many areas creating some wet weather for many who are heading out for High School football. The good news for tailgaters at tomorrow’s Iowa – Iowa State game in Iowa City is that the precip should be out of the state by Saturday Morning.
After tonight, there are few if any chances for showers and thunderstorms in the first half of next week. All in all a quiet and very comfortable forecast shaping up for Iowa in the coming days.
