Another One Bites the Dust

iowa_tmpfAfter waking up this morning, to heavy snow and freezing rain, we have warmed up across the state where you wouldn’t even have known that it had snowed this morning. Highs have warmed up to the lower 50s across western Iowa, and the mid 40s to lower 30s for the rest of the state.

This morning our chase team was out streaming the morning commute. Roads were very slow going this morning and there were many school delays and cancellations because of the road conditions.  Totals ended up around 4 to 5 inches across eastern Iowa, with 1 to 3 inches for the rest of the state.

The week ahead looks to be very interesting. Tomorrow and Wednesday will be quiet with highs ranging from the mid 50s in southwest Iowa to the 30s across northeast Iowa. The next system that we have been keeping our eye on, and the one that many of you have been asking about, will arrive Wednesday night into Thursday.

rain

Model agreement has been fairly decent and confidence in this system has now been increasing. A surface low will develop over the lee of the Rockies and will start to move closer to the state during the evening on Wednesday. This system will have a lot of moisture to work with but the main challenge will be determining what type of precipitation will fall.  As of now, it appears that precip will begin as rain, and will then transition over to snow late Wednesday night. Right now this system looks very interesting to our forecasting team, so we will continue to monitor this system. Keep checking our Facebook page, and right here at Iowachase.com for the very latest.
