Active Weather Wednesday – Friday

NAM Forecast Precip Type Midwest

The weather will begin to become active by the later half of this week. The potential exists for rain, some potentially freezing rain, and snow. The first round of weather will begin during the day Wednesday. Temperatures will be cool enough for mainly snow. The NAM seems to be the most aggressive with snowfall accumulations, but it does appear some light snowfall accumulations will be possible Wednesday.

After Wednesday, the models begin to differ and this is leaving some uncertainty. Temperatures will be warming up on Thursday which will cause precipitation to fall as rain. Some freezing rain may be possible as temperatures flirt with the freezing line, but this does not appear to be a big issue at this time. Friday will be the better system out of the three days. Even then, the models disagree on track and timing.

As you can see from the image above, temperature will be warming to above freezing by Thursday morning. Temperatures will not cool back off to below freezing until Friday afternoon. This is when rain would transition over to snow. But if the track shifts and temperatures remain cooler than currently forecasted, then more snow than rain will be possible. It will be something that we will monitor as we head into this week.
