Back in April, I made the decision to make some changes to this website. I decided to purchase my own domain name, pull it off the standard WordPress account and make an attempt to get some exposure for this website. Today as I sat down in front of the computer for the first time in quite a while, I decided to look back and the impact this website has had since that time.
According to my web tracking service, iowachase.com has received 52,665 page views since we made the switch on April 8th, 2010. That’s not big in the grand scheme of things as some Iowa websites can pull in millions of hits each month. To me however, in less than a year of operation, it tells me that there are plenty of people out in the web world who feel traditional mediums are not effectively relaying information in real-time to people on the internet.
Simply put it’s a new realm that has a lot of potential that’s being left untapped. I can recall in my earlier days that severe weather coverage was not even considered online because of the unreliability of keeping information up to date. But those days are over now. Almost anything can be relayed in real time nowadays. It’s a new world that I hope others like me can take advantage of. There are too many people who turn to their computers and cell phone to get the latest information.
For now though I’ll get off my soapbox and tell you we plan to continue into 2011. My hope is that we can continue to innovate the way you not only get weather information but share it with others across the web world. I look forward to working with you all in the future and bringing you more coverage of the weather extremes that strike the state of Iowa.
