A Look At the Week Ahead

Iowa HighsWasn’t today a beautiful day? Well I hope you got out and enjoyed it as we will be cooling off over the next few days. Highs today ranged from the lower 50s, almost the mid 50s across southern Iowa, to the upper 30s across the northern part of the state. Our next weather maker will move though the state tomorrow night.

A cold front will push to the southeast tomorrow evening, and with it we could see light snow showers. Not expecting a whole lot of snow with this strong clipper system, but across northern Iowa, a light half inch to as much as 2 inches could be possible. Windy conditions will develop across the state on Tuesday and this could cause areas of blowing snow. Tuesday highs will range from the lower 20s across the north to the lower 30s across the south.

Wind Chills Friday MorningAnother strong clipper system will move through the state on Thursday and this one will bring with it very windy conditions. Wind gusts will be approaching 50mph with the potential for higher wind gusts. Not a whole lot of moisture will be with this clipper so only expecting a few light flurries and once again mainly across northern Iowa. Highs on Thursday will be in the upper 20s to mid 30s and behind this clipper system, highs on Friday will be in the lower 20s to lower teens. Because of the strong winds with this clipper system, waking up Friday morning will feel like -5°F in the south to -15°F in the north.

If you didn’t get out today, you will be sorry when you wake up Friday morning. Looking at the long range models, nothing right now that grabs my attention. Have a great week, and as always, keep checking back to Iowachase.com for the very latest forecast!
