A Break At Last From the Stormy Nights

day1otlk_1300Our pattern appears to be broken.  A cold front is making its way across the state, bringing with it a cooler, drier and quieter weather pattern for a little while.  At this hour the Storm Prediction Center is maintaining a low-end slight risk for portions of extreme eastern Iowa.  This is for thunderstorms that are expected to develop along and ahead of the front as it pushes through.

But unlike yesterday and early this morning, the dynamics for thunderstorms development just aren’t there.  Instability is not building fast enough and a dry punch of air should prevent any major problems here in Iowa.  The primary focus for severe weather today will exist to the northeast of Iowa, in Wisconsin.

This is welcomed news for many kept awake by storms in recent days.  We should see a day or two of quiet weather before chances of precip re-enter the weather picture.  But at this time there are no major storm systems forecast for Iowa.  Spring may have went out like a lion, but when summer officially starts this afternoon, most areas of Iowa can just breathe a sigh of relief.
