Confidence is growing that a slow moving storm system will produce a smaller scale outbreak today over portions of Kansas and Missouri. You can see in the graphic above the relatively small area now under a moderate risk today. This area can expect to see explosive thunderstorm development with all modes of severe weather possible. Within this moderate risk area, dynamics are looking favorable for several tornadoes, including some strong and violent tornadoes.
Also of concern is the potential for very large hail within this area. Depending on the eventual area of development and track of any storms that form, the greater Wichita and Kansas City areas appear to be at greatest risk from this potential outbreak today.
It is vital to people living in these areas to stay up to date with the latest weather information throughout the day as storms could quickly turn severe and produce life threatening conditions. We will continue to monitor the latest updated through the morning and afternoon and bring you updates as soon as we get them.
