No change in the risk for severe weather here in Iowa, as forecasters await better storm development in the Dakotas. The Storm Prediction Center is monitoring an area just northwest of Iowa where a warm front is draped across South Dakota, stretching into Iowa. This is an area where ongoing storms could intensify or new storms may develop later this afternoon and evening.
If these storms become severe, they are expected to ride the warm front into portions of western Iowa later tonight. This is something we’ll have to keep a close eye on over the next several hours. Right now the Storm Prediction Center is considering issuing a watch for South Dakota but not Iowa. We’ll have to wait and see if the threat for severe weather will increase for northwest Iowa later tonight.
