So things are still looking troubling for later this afternoon across much of Iowa. Of special note is the increased risk for hail across most of the state today. You can see that risk area in the graphic to the left. The atmosphere in central and western Iowa is gradually destabilizing right now and the threat of surface based thunderstorm development is growing.
Besides the growing hail threat, storms could produce tornadoes later this afternoon across Iowa as well. This is a complex and pretty uncertain storm system so it’s tough to nail down exactly what area faces the greatest threat.
We continue to monitor the situation and plan to launch our live coverage if needed later today.
